04 Jul Paris Hilton slammed by Peta for buying new chihuahua from breeder
PETA has slammed Paris Hilton for buying a new teacup chihuahua from a breeder instead of adopting from a shelter – and now plans to plaster ads protesting her decision across Los Angeles.
The campaign was sparked after Hilton took to Instagram on Wednesday to gush over her new pup.
Moira Colley, a spokesperson for PETA, told DailyMail.com on Friday that the ads are set to roll out next week and will be plastered all over the city of Angels.
‘The posters will be pointing out that Paris has overlooked millions of lovable homeless dogs in U.S. shelters while pimping for the pet-breeding industry,’ Colley said.
‘PETA hopes our street art blitz will remind every celebrity to lead by example and adopt, never shop.’
Another PETA rep blasted the hotel heiress: ‘Paris Hilton has apparently been living under a rock for the past decade, because a day in an animal shelter would have shown her just how many chihuahuas near me for adoption already need homes, and five minutes on Petfinder would turn up thousands more, including puppies.’
Last month, comedian Pete Davidson left an unhinged voicemail to PETA in which he screamed ‘f*** you, suck my d***’ after it criticized him for buying a puppy from a pet store instead of adopting from an animal shelter.
He was spotted picking up the new dog from a breeder – a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle – at a shop in New York City alongside his actress girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders.
But PETA’s Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations Daphna Nachminovitch expressed her disappointment at his decision not to adopt.

The ad campaign uproar was sparked after Hilton took to Instagram on Wednesday pictured as she was gushing over her new cutie-pie
In Hilton’s Instagram post, the socialite is seen pictured holding her new puppy and asks fans to help her name him.
‘Welcoming the newest addition to the family! He’s so adorable!’ read the caption with a picture of Hilton holding her pet and surrounded by her other animals. ‘What should we name him?!’
In the post, she also revealed that the teacup chihuahua is related to her precious Harajuku Bitch, her longtime companion, who died in May at the shocking age of 23.
Many fans sent congratulatory posts and their idea for a moniker. ‘Chickpea… ‘Gizmo’… ‘Taco’ … Tigger’ … ‘Teddy Hilton’ …and ‘Tinkerbelle, Jr.’ were some of the names.
One viewer called him an absolute ‘doll,’ and gave her name suggestion as ‘Kintsugi’ the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, silver or platinum which they said is fitting due to the loss of her Harajuku Bitch.
Others were not as celebratory and echoed PETA’s criticisms. ‘No teacup pets that cruel,’ one person wrote. Another posted the hashtag ‘adoptdon’tshop.’
According to PETA, approximately 70 million dogs and cats are homeless in the U.S. at any given time, and an estimated 10 percent are in shelters where many have to be euthanized.

Breeders add to this crisis by bringing more animals into the world, who in turn produce even more animals, including many who will end up on the street or in animal shelters.
The breeder Hilton used is FouFou’s Teacup Puppies, Inc. The company that is headquartered in Gangam, South Korea sells a variety of different breeds including, Pomeranians, Maltese, poodles and yorkies.
These specialty dogs have hefty price tags that run into the thousands with a pup costing about $7,000. It is unclear if Hilton purchased the pup or if the breeder gifted it to her as part of a collaboration.
Hilton’s Instagram features a photo of her with founders of FouFou’s Teacup Puppies.
‘It was an honor and a privilege to send our bundle of unconditional puppy love to the Queen of Queens @parishilton. It’s a Paw-Ty,’ the founders said in a post.
‘Words can’t describe how special this moment is. From day one this was a dream that came true. Thank you to the most amazing, humble, hardworking, sweet, kind-hearted, genuine, funny, radiant, gorgeous, stunning, iconic, elegant, empowering human being on earth.
The latest uproar is not the first time Paris Hilton has been called out for buying dogs
Hilton replied in five words: ‘I love my new fur baby.’
The PETA rep added: ‘PETA knows that retail therapy is what Paris loves best, but we ask her to keep the shopping to baubles and bags and give an animal a chance to be ‘sliving’ by adopting.’
The spokesperson said that there will be at least a dozen ads featured in different neighborhoods across Los Angeles.
The nonprofit organization conducted an investigation into what they described as the ‘nightmare’ puppy mills in South Korea though they told DailyMail.com that Hilton’s breeder was not one of the facilities being investigated.
Between March 2022 and January 2023, a PETA Asia investigator visited four puppy mills in South Korea. Since then, PETA filed complaints with the government and four police stations and we have been waiting for action to be taken—however, the facilities have been allowed to continue to operate legally.
In them, frightened dogs frantically pace back and forth in cramped, filthy cages amid the constant deafening sound of barking, while the puppy mill owners with government connections rake in millions.
One owner divulged that he breeds animals both for the ‘pet’ trade and for dogfighting. When dogs can no longer fight, they’re sold for meat and killed. Another breeder suggested removing dogs’ vocal cords and implied that he unintentionally killed a dog by administering an erroneous injection.
